Wagdy Anis is a principal with Anis Building Enclosure Consulting, providing high performance building enclosure and building science consulting expertise to the design and construction community; Before that, Mr. Anis spent 7 years as a principal with the firm of Wiss, Janney, Elstner, Associates, Inc., and 40 years with the firm of Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott with the last 20 years as director of technical resources, becoming a principal and director in 1997.


Mr. Anis’ professional focus is the integrity and performance of the building enclosure, from a research, design and troubleshooting perspective, as well as high performance, sustainable building design and indoor air quality. He consults regularly to building owners, architects, contractors, consultants, manufacturers and the legal profession regarding the design and performance of the building enclosure.


Mr. Anis is past chairman of the National Institute of Building Sciences’ Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC); he is the Technical Editor for the JBED edition of JNIBS, The Journal of Building Enclosure Design. For the Massachusetts State Board of Building Regulations and Standards, he serves as chairman of the Energy Advisory Committee. He serves as co-chair of ASTM E06.55.11 that oversees ASTM E2947, Standard Guide for Building Enclosure Commissioning.  Mr. Anis is a founding board member and board member emeritus of the Air Barrier Association of America, and has served as a board member of the Association of Energy Engineers’ Certified Building Commissioning Professional and as a faculty member of its CBCP certification course. Mr. Anis has served for 11 years as a voting member of ASHRAE SSPC 90.1 and serves on TC 4.4, and on the NIBS/ASHRAE committee that developed Guideline 3, “Technical Requirements for Commissioning the Building Enclosure”. He has served on the New Buildings Institute’s criteria review committee for the Advanced Buildings Benchmark TM. Mr. Anis has been instrumental in establishing 28 Building Enclosure Councils in the US according to the NIBS/AIA Agreement of May 18, 2004.


Mr. Anis has served as lecturer in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Architecture and Planning (MIT) Masters in Architecture program and the Harvard GSD Executive Education course on stone masonry. He is also a visiting professor teaching Building Enclosure Science in Boston Architectural College’s M Arch distance learning program and has taught the Professional Practice course at the BAC for three years. He lectures extensively on building enclosure design, building science, indoor air quality and mold avoidance in design. He is a pioneer in air barrier design, and is considered a national resource and expert on air infiltration and moisture control in buildings.
